Setting a repeating field from a secondary data source

I have a form with a Main data source that I designed from hand. I am using
a button with rules to update a secondary data source from a web service and
then set fields in the main data source to values from the secondary data
source.

This works well for except for repeating fields. When I set a field in a
repeating group in the main data source to a field in a repeating group in
the second data source only the first repetition is set. The remaining
repetitions are lost.

How can I cause all of the repetions to be set in the main data source.
