Hi, i am completely new to excel so please go easy on me :)

I would like to set a function so that when a date in a cell is reached ie 01/07/2008 i am sent an alert. Rather like an alarm set on a task in entourage. Is this possible and can anyone help?

Thank you for your time.

One Option: Data> Validation

Another: Format> Conditional Formatting

Details on both are available in Excel Help, but feel free to post back with
any specific questions.

Hi CyberTaz,

Thank you for your response. I have tried these options but i dont really know what i am doing. The help section is a little vague.

Il explain exactly what i am doing then perhaps you may be able to give me some directions?

I have a set of cells that i have inputed dates into. I would like excel to alert me when these dates are reached. ie i have a cell with 01/01/2008 in it, on this day i would like to receive an alert that tells me i need to send out an email. Is it possible to link it with my entourage so that i get a pop up? If so how would i go about doing this?

Once again thank you for your time.

Well, that's a horse of a completely different color:)

Excel doesn't have any sort of notification feature built in. You can easily
have a message appear in a cell with a simple formula such as:

=IF(A1=TODAY(), "Send Email","")

Something like that can also be built on for higher visibility. I'm sure
there are other possibilities as well, but whether that's sufficient for
your requirement I'm not sure.

In order to get anything to "pop up" there would have to be some sort of
code involved. Excel 2008 doesn't support VBA, so it would have to be done
with Apple Script or XLM, but I'm not sure whether either will do something
like that. Perhaps one of the others around here can provide an answer -
writing code isn't my strong suit:)

As for any interaction between Excel & Entourage, I've never had reason to
investigate it. That's also something I'll leave to someone else and you
might get ideas if you post to the Entourage group.

You can set the reminder in E'rage, of course, and you can also do something
similar through the Project Gallery from the other apps in the suite. The
tricky part is automating the interaction between 2 separate programs.
