setting baselines for tasks with sharepoint dependency links

we have been linking tasks to Sharepoint dependencies. We have also been
taking care to capture the baseline information of the sharepoint
dependencies. I discovered that if you set the baseline for a task using
tools==>tracking==>set baseline, then not only does the baseline column get
populated with the planning dates, but the baseline deliverable fields also
get populated with the task planning dates. I didn't expect this... the
owner of the sharepoint deliverable should get to dictate what goes in
deliverable baseline start/finish field.

That expectation is contrary to the basic design of Project, where the PM or
scheduler determines what goes in the project baseline, not a team member
who owns the deliverable. Even if you're consuming cross project
deliverables, the baseline for any project is and should be in the control
of the Schedule Owner, not the deliverable owner. So, a deliverable can have
many baselines if it is associated with many projects. Among other chores
that the schedule owner should perform in advance of setting a baseline is
to check with deliverable owners to verify the veracity of the dates.

We have a macro that takes the baseline dates of a sharepoint deliverable and
appends it the end of the deliverable name between angular brackets "<>". We
then have a macro at the dependency end that extracts the baseline dates and
populates the baseline deliverable start/finish dates for the type=2's.

The "Set Baseline" command is overriding what we got in the deliverable
baseline start/finish fields for the type=2's; I think this is wrong ---- the
deliverable owner should get to dictate the deliverable baseline
start/finish. In fact, we are using variance computations with graphical
indicators to help determine where we are not in synch.
