setting default appointment parameters

I can't find a way of specifying the default settings for an appointment.
When selecting "New" it always comes up with a whole day appointment, which
is not what I want.

Any ideas how to modify this? Can't find it in help, nor the Knowledge base.
I am using Outlook 2002 SP-2 on an exchange server.
