Setting Default font

I've just upgraded to WindowsXP Pro with Office2000. I always use Word as my E-mail editor. I have been unable to reset my default font to 14pt. In both Outlooks & Word I (think) that I have set the default correctly. Every time I go to Tools, then Font it appears to show as 14 being the default, but each time I open e new e-mail msg, it still shows the font as 10pt
HELP!!
