Setting default for grayscale in PPT 2002 and 2007

I must use both versions of PPT because of coworker using older version. We
use many text boxes on our slides and continually are nailed by having lines
around them when printing handouts.

I notice that the default is Automatic for grayscale setting. Is there a way
to change that? Then when printing handouts we only need to change to
grayscale in View. Or, are there potential problems with moving away from
Automatic?

It's nice to have handouts in color but until color copy costs come way down
we will be using B&W.
