setting fonts

I have a long list of font names. Is there an easy way to set the names
to their corresponding fonts? For example, the word arial should be
displayed using arial font.

I don't think so, at least not an easy way,
as your list is a list of filenames,
not of fontnames.

ANTQUABI - Antiqua bold italic
ANTQUAI - Antiqua italic
arialbd - Arial bold
arialbi - Arial bold italic
ariali - Arial italic
ARIALN - Arial narrow
ARIALNB - Arial norrow bold

However, there is software to show all fonts
with their names, like:
