Setting Hyperlink to Download File

C

Chuck

I have a link on my website that points to a file called TIME.STD.

The file contains Swimming Time Standards.

I'd like to have the link automatically open as an FTP so that the file can
be downloaded by the visitor.

If I right click and select save target as.... it works but the default
hyperlink just opens the file in the browser.

Is this possible?

You have to create the link using ftp://ftp.yourdomainname.com/foldername/time.std however you will
need to check with your web host, as you will need to have FTP server added to your account.

The safest way to do this is to place the file into a .zip file instead.
Browsers will always try to open a file for viewing if they know how to
display it for you. They do know that for a zip file they can't display it
so instead will simply initiate a download. FTP doesn't necessarily mean the
user will always be prompted for download. Also, you need to make sure that
your site has anonymous FTP access so that site viewers could download it.
Not all hosts enable this or allow it.

Hope this helps,
