Setting margins withing a style

B

Bert Coules

Sorry to be asking such a basic question but I can't seem to find the answer
elsewhere.

I'm preparing a long manuscript with a number of separate paragraphs which
have to appear in a different font to the main text and also with wider
margins: say two inches left and right rather than one.

I'm assuming that the best way to arrange this is to set up a style for
these paragraphs. I've marked one as a block and specified the font, but if
I then go to page setup and alter the margins, they're changed for the whole
document not just the marked section.

What am I doing wrong? Is changing the margins not the best way to achieve
the double-indented look I'm after?

Many thanks.

Inevitably, as soon as I post the query I find the answer. Mark the
paragraph, go to Format/Paragraph and set the indents there.

Apologies.

If you are using a specific style, you can modify the style itself. That
way, you get the appropriate indent each time you apply the style.

Thanks for that, but in fact I'm using a style created from an existing
paragraph. I seem to have cracked it now.

That is good news. :)

Your reference to Format | Paragraph made me think you added the formatting
directly to text.

You change margins for a document or section, indents for individual
paragraphs. In the Paragraph dialog, add left and right indents. You can
start with the Block Text style and change the indents to suit.
