setting measurements

Although I have set the measurements to metric in Contol
Panel, Regional options.
I can't work out how I can change the measurements from
inches to metric (centimetres etc in word/office.

I would like my ruler to be metric rather than be shown
in inches. Same goes for all other items that I need to
set or choose a measurement/size.

I am sure it must be simple, but I can't work it out.

I am new to XP.

Please help.
