Setting Permissions on Project Web Access

D

Dan Pickard

We have a number of projects setup on the system. Some projects are
department specific. How can we set permissions on Project Web Access so
that each dept can only see their projects, and not projects that belong to
other departments?

One of the easiest ways to accomplish this by using the RBS and using the
security settings to take advantage of the hierarchy. You can also create
custom categories and achieve the same results. I'd be loathe to advise one
direction or the other without knowing all of your requirements.

Hi Gary,

Thank you for the advice and I am sorry to sound thick but what is RBS?

Thanks for that. So I would set the code for the resource to 30 but how do
you create the breakdown structure? If I apply this to tasks I just use
Indent but this is not available for resources or should this be done on the
project server itself and not the project?

Walking you through understanding Project Server security is not a very
practical endeavor in a newsgroup. You're asking for knowledge that takes at
least a half day to teach the basics. You might consider purchasing our
Administrator's book, or work with the help files and white papers available
on the Microsoft to get started, and then ask specific questions that can be
tackled in a quick newsgroup reply..
