Setting recurring appointments based on other appointments

I have a monthly deadline date that changes each month. However, there are certain recurring appointments that are time sensitive based on the deadline. (EX: Need to run a report 3 days before deadline). Is there a way to set up recurring appointments based on the deadline date (which again, changes each month --- may be the 19th is month and the 22nd next).

This is a several step process.

1. Insert a recurring task. (Yes, I know the dates change but we'll fix
that up in a moment.)

1a. Task name: Monthly meeting
1b. Duration: 0d (this will make it a milestone task).
1c. Expand the recurring task so you see the individual tasks.
1d. Go to the line immediately after the first milestone and insert as
many lines as there are tasks for this milestone. Your example has only
one task so insert one blank line.

2. Create the task.
2a. Task name: run report
2b. Duration: whatever is appropriate (1d)

3. Create the link.
3a. On the Gantt chart put your mouse on the Milestone, click and drag to
the task we just created. You should see a link being created. If you
don't then try again or review the help about creating a link.
3b. Double-click on the link to open up the Task Dependency dialog.
3c. Change the lag field to -3d.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as often as necessary to create the tasks and the
links to the milestone task.

5. Change the date of the milestone and you'll see the lag maintained and
you'll see the task(s) related to the milestone being adjusted as
necessary.
