Setting the date format

B

Boris

All,

I have changed the date formatting of some cells through dd-mmm-yyyy, which
results in dates like 18-nov-2008, which is exactly what I am trying to
achieve.

However, the value of the cell is 11/18/2008, but I want to fill in
18/11/2008. Obviously, this should result in 18-nov-2008

Could someone tell me how to solve this?

Thanks in advance,

You have to enter your dates in accordance with the regional settings
defined in windows. The format you defined is the one displayed, not
the one you enter.

Hi Boris,
If you really want to change what you requested. Please go through the
following steps. This may be somewhat hard depending on your ease of use with
windows.

go to control panel

select "regional and language options" it may be "regional settings" in some
systems.

open it by double clicking it.

in the regional optins tab, click customise button.

now in customize regional options got to "date" tab.

now in short date format select the setting you like from the drop down.

or you can write yourself too, i think it would be dd/mm/yyyy in your context.

Select your range
Go to Data Text to Columns - Select Delimited -Next -in the Data format
change select Date and change the Date format to DMY or MDY depending on
your regional settings ( try both to make sure) - Finish - voilà
