Hi Julie -

Most likely because you've left the programs running ever since the
installation :)

Date & Time information is furnished by the OS, it isn't "set" by the
programs or by Office. However, most applications pick up the Date
information on launching the program. That suggests that you're leaving your
Mac & your programs running 24/7 which - despite the impression given by
"sleep", etc. - is NOT a good idea for many reasons. Restart your Mac at
least 2-3 times a week - in fact, there's no need to leave it running
overnight. Also, restart the programs you use at least once a day.

Hi Bob Jones,
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately this isn't the case. I shut it down every day.
The mails I send from the mac programme Mail is perfectly showing the right date. So is every document aved in anything - but the Office package.
So it must be something that needs to be set here.. I just donøt know what...

I'm not being contrary but there simply is no setting in Office or any of
its programs that controls date & time stamping of files. That's a function
of the operating system. If Office files are not being accurately stamped
there certainly must be a reason but I'm afraid it isn't something that can
be addressed through Office.

How long ago did you install Office? Has it been updated to 12.1.5? Have you
run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions since installation or applying
any updates?

Where are you seeing the dates listed? What is displayed in File> Properties
on either the General or the Statistics page?

Listed "where"? In which program?

It is possible to mis-configure the Finder so that it looks at the wrong
date field. If it does that, and you create documents by "copying" you
could conceivably be looking at the date the original was created.

But I need to know the details of the programs you are using where you are
seeing the dates ...

Cheers

It's in your Application/Utilities folder. Apple Help will guide you on how
to use.
and don't know where to look if I updated for 12.1.5??

In the Menu bar under Word, select About Word. It will tell you what version
you have installed.

Download the script application for Office 2008 and copy/paste the clipboard
into your reply. You will see something like this. If yours is different,
you need to update.

Hi Julie -

As for your update level of Office go to the application menu of any Office
program & select About_______ [whatever the name of the program is]. If it's
anything less that 12.1.5 use the Help menu to Check for Updates to install
any updates you may be missing. I'd suggest that you set the AutoUpdate
program to check "Monthly".

Your info about exact OS X version can be found if you click the Apple menu
icon & select About This Mac. Software Update is located in System
Preferences but should already be set to run periodically. You might want to
confirm the current settings but "Weekly" is recommended.

Disk Utility is included as a part of OS X & can be found in the
Applications/Utilities folder. Among its tools is Repair Disk Permissions
which should be used periodically - especially after installing any new
software or updates. Launch the program, select your HD from the list of
devices & go to the Disk First Aid page. Click the Repair Disk Permissions
button & let it run... It may take a few minutes for it to finish.

Also, attachments to newsgroup messages does not work, so the PDFs you
mentioned are not visible here.

I'm still not sure why the wrong dates are being used but since more than
just Office documents are being incorrectly dated [such as your updates] it
most definitely has something to do with either OS X or perhaps some utility
program you may be using. I honestly don't know what more to suggest. You
may also want to inquire through the Apple Discussions Forum for insight on
Date & Time error issues. The main page is:

Instead of using Custom/special, try selecting the country closest to your
time zone.

Try this script:

<http://scriptbuilders.net/files/correctthedate1.0.html>

This script is useful for correcting those messages you receive where the
senders system clock is badly adjusted, and the message displays a date that
is different to the real date the message was sent. The script will reset
the displayed date to the date in the first 'received' header of the message
- about as close as you can reasonably get to the date the message was sent.

Let me know if it helps.

Thank you Diane,
By setting the country to Denmark instead of speciel, it fixed the date stamp on both all saved documents and software updates.

Now I only need to fix it in Entourage. I will try to create a new account, since forwarding mails from Entourage to Mail fixes the date. Only I need to keep them in entourage and fix it there.
Thank you so far and I'll let you know when the last bit is fixed.

Thanks.

See if one of these scripts will fix the problem. I would test in a new
Identity on some test messages first.

Dear Diane,
The problem is fixed..

I don't know if it was the script that fixed the problem, or it was the change in the international settings. But I shot down the computer last night and this morning all dates were fixed.

Thank you so much, you have been of great help!
All the best

Restarting is a good tool in troubleshooting. Glad you are all fixed now.
