setting the Trash folder

I use Outlook with my IMAP email service and have a problem with Outlook
recognizing the trash folder. After I configured my account, the "Trash" and
"Junk" folders did not have unique icons next to them. The problem that I
have with this is that when I hit "delete" on an email, I would like it to be
moved to the "Trash" folder. How can I get Outlook to recognize that this
folder is where the trash should be taken?

I was reading other users' reports of this issue and the responses they got.
Essentially what they were told was that it can't be done--Outlook marks them
with a strikethrough (to be deleted).

However, I created a fresh email account on my same server using the same
email server. When I loaded this email into Outlook, it performed exactly as
I expect it to: hitting "delete" puts a copy into "Trash" and marks it to be
deleted. So I know that this is possible. I just don't know how. I've
probably spent about 40 hours trying to figure this out. Help, anybody?

Compare the accounts and see what is different - check the account type and
the outlook version. AFAIK, no version of outlook moves deleted imap items
to the deleted items folder.
