Setting up a local test web

I am very new to this so please excuse any stupid questions...
I am trying to create a web that uses FPSE's and save it to my pc for
testing purposes, before publishing it to the internet. I am running XP
professional with IIS 5.1 and, as far as I can see FPSE installed. I use FP
2003 and when I try and publish the web to /inetpub/wwwroot I get an error
message saying 'Unable to open http://inetpub/wwwroot' Sefver error couldn't
find a web server etc.
Any suggestions would be mot welcome ( in plain English please as this is my
first attempt at this and I'm not very techy!!, thanks).

The correct path is either:
http://localhost/webname

or

http://username/webname

With username being the name for the currently logged on user.

I tried publishing to http://localhost which worked but as soon as I tried to
follow the path through I got this message: (page1.htm is a liknk from
index.htm)
Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:
"http://localhost/page1.htm"

Try creating a new server extensions web.
Tell FrontPage to publish to a folder that doesn't exist in IIS.

Such as http://localhost/newfoldername

You should be prompted as to whether you want to create a new web.
Tell it yes.

Did what you said and it did everything you said but still came up with the
same response, am I missing something? Somewhere else in these newsgroups it
said something about installing everything in a particular order, should I
try uninstalling and re-installing etc.? Sorry to be a nuisance...

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools.
Open the Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator. ( it says sharepoint but it is the extensions
administrator )
Run a check on the extensions.

Thanks for your help so far.... but I've done something wrong somewhere and
fpse has disappeared into the ether so I'm going to reinstall and try again.
With luck I won't need to bother you again, but...Tim
