I want to set up Word XP (2002) so that all users connected to a
network can access macros that are created by 1 administrative user. I
have each user set up with their 'User template directory' (where
Normal.dot is stored) pointed to their individual home dir.
I have read a couple documents on the Web which indicate you can create
a 'global template' that users can use macros from and that an
administrator can update. I created a 'global template' dir on the
network and put 'global.dot' in it. I then created a shortcut pointing
to the global.dot file in each user's Word startup folder (c:\documents
and settings\{user}\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup). This
allows users to 'see' the macros that are in the global.dot file but I
don't have to copy global.dot to each user's Word startup folder. I
have a couple problems that I need help with.
1. If Macro security is set on high, I can't run the macros from the
global.dot. If I set it to medium, then it will prompt me if I want to
enable macros each time I start Word. Is there any way to tell Word
that this specific directory on the network is OK to run macros from
without prompting the user?
2. I can't figure out how to save or edit macros in the global.dot
file so that the administrator can make changes. When you create a
macro (usually just a simple keyboard recorded macro) the only option
to save it to is the user's personal normal.dot which will only allow
that user to run the macro.
What am I missing?
