Setting up IMAP for Exchange Dist Group

This might belong in the Exchange forum but...

So I'm a bit confused and I know this is pretty simple but I need to
configure IMAP in Outlook/Thunderbird for a email distribution group
as in multiple users will check this dist group by talking to our Exc
2003 server. The dist group has about 6 users. My question is this -
what logon account is used? Since this is a dist group and isn't
associated with an account in AD does that mean that the users in the
dist group all have access? I know the in and out servers - for ex
below.

in (imap) - mail1.mycompany.com
out (smtp) - smtp.mycompany.com

dist group - (e-mail address removed)

ex user - (e-mail address removed)

So is the dist group name the email address I use and use John Smith's
account credentials to logon?

thanks

Distribution group? As distribution group <> mailbox, there's nothing to "check."

It sounds like you need to create an Exchange mailbox that users can then log onto with the credentials for any user that has access to that mailbox. You can use a security group to set access on the mailbox.

FYI, the newsgroup for Exchange client issues is microsoft.public.exchange.clients.

Maybe - been a crazy moring and I think I might have it. This user is
a member of the email dist group already so any mail sent to this dist
group/list will go to him regaular email address, right?

Yes, that's what distribution groups are for.
