Setting up numbering for a new style

When setting the numbering levels for a newly created
style, to be followed by a tab, Word automatically sets
the tab to 0.63 cm irrespective of the style's tab
settings. How do I stop this from happening? Can anyone
help me?

Hi Terry,

Make sure you set the tab space (and the left indent) in the numbering
dialog box that you will, of course, get to from the style pane when
creating the style. Click on "Customize" (in the Bullet & Numbering dialog,
under the "numbering" tab and adjust the tab and the indent from there. If
you don't, you can get conflicts between the tab setting in the numbering
dialog and the tab setting in the Tabs dialog...
