Setting up pictures, etc on pages

I'm not sure what to call this. I think it something to do with templates or master pages.

I'm making 2009 calendars, using one I made in 2007 to go by. Not sure where I got that from, but I think I modified one from Pub 2003. I'm not using Pub 2007

I changed the months to 2009 that was no problem. Now I'm putting new pictures on the tops (it's 12 pages, with a picture on top of each month, leaving room for spiral binding) What I just did, but not sure it came out EXACT was to "insert picture"
(new picture) on each page, and resize it, line it up with the original one under it, kind of "by eye". I looked all over and can't find anything that shows what size the picture is (when I resize it by dragging it) so I can make each picture the same.

Now, I'm also thinking maybe I'd like to leave more space on top (for the binding) and have a bigger picture, with smaller calendar under each one.

Whatever I try, I'd like to set it up first with the picture and calendar (and space on top) the same size on each of the 12 pages.
So, when I insert picture I could resize it, and it would snap to the guidelines the same size and spacing on the paper.

I'm sure this is simple to those who know how to do it

I don't think there is a "picture box" in Pub 2007 like in 2003.

Of course, I could go into an art program and make all the pictures the same size first, but I keep trying different ones, and don't know (before hand) which one will look best.

Thanks,
Carrie

Right-click the picture, format picture, size tab.

You could also create an Autoshapes, fill, fill effects, picture tab, check the
aspect box.

In Pub2007...

If you double left click a current picture you
can browse and select a replacement.

I didn't know this
I can go over the pictures first and crop or resize them all the same,
but at the time I make the calendar I'm not sure which picture I'll want to
use so insert>picture and look around, trying them. They are usually too big
for the space so I grab the corner and push them in.
I think what I want is to set up one page, with the margins and guidelines
all set and have this come on all 12 pages.
Maybe doing it on the first one will do this.
I'm getting back to it, now.

If the double left click fails to open the
Insert Picture screen, you may have to
right click the current picture and go to...
Change Picture / From File...then the
double left click should work.

I'll find out!
I was setting up margins on the first page (of the 12) and it didn't seem
to be showing up on the other 11
But, I was also using an old calendar I had from 2008, with the dates
changed, just changing the picture.
I'm going to try starting fresh.

Going to try this now.
Also, see if I can set (change) the size of the picture using the size
tab.
If the picture is selected?
I think I need to set up one page the way I want it, and have it show up
on all 12.
There doesn't seem to be a "picture box" like there was in 03.
But, the margins can still be set.
I get into the creative part of this, but get bogged down and confused
with the "details".

I tried a few things. I get the first place of the calendar set up, with rulers and guidelines showing where I want the picture to go. I set it up as a master and apply to all pages. The margins go on all but the guidelines don't
I think this is the question, how do I get the guidelines (showing where I want the picture to go on each page, so it will be alike on each) to show on all of the 12 pages?
Right now I am putting the pictures on and resizing them so they look right "by eye". Though I could probably go over each page and put on lines going by the side and top rulers, this seems slow to do on each page.

I'm not sure what to call this. I think it something to do with templates or master pages.

I think Carrie is making this way too hard. If she creates a one cell table and
inserts a picture into the cell, the picture will fit. The table will not change
size, and the pictures will be a consistent size. If the pictures are more or
less alike then there shouldn't be any problems. If the pictures are not similar
there will be distortion. There is a size tab in the picture format menu with an
aspect option.

The ruler guides will carry to each page if she clicks "Apply to Page Range..."

I guess I don't understand exactly what's going on...
seems to me the previous info I posted should solve
this issue.

I don't think you need to use a Master page for the
pictures. That might be useful if you wanted the same
picture on every page.

Anyway...I thought you said you were using an old
template and wanted to replace the pictures with
different ones?

Also...are all the replacement pictures the same size?
If not...did you try cropping them with FastStone Image
Viewer?

Maybe I'm not getting it...hopefully someone else can
offer better information.

It's probably that I'm not explaining it clearly.
I'm using an old calendar I made with Pub 2003, now I'm using 2007. It's a
basic calendar with a picture on top and calendar page on bottom. I can't
find anything like it in the templates (and don't remember how I started it
and set it up at the time)
I want to insert a different picture on each page, from my files. They
aren't all resized the same (I can do this in Photoshop, etc. but I'm not
sure which picture I'll use till I try some).
I'd like to set up margins, guidelines, etc. on the first page (to show
where the picture will go) and have these show up on the other 11 pages. So
I can resize the picture (dragging the corner) to fit in the guidlines and
get it the same on each one (size and location on the page)
Last night I set up guidelines I can drag, for the top, bottom and sides
(2 vertical and 2 horizontal) and dragged them to the same place on the
ruler, then made the picture to fit in them. But, I had to put the
guidelines (4 of them) on each page. Once they were on it, and dragged to
the markings on the ruler I could then fit the picture in it.
I thought there was a way of setting up one page (guidelines) and applying
it to all the pages in the calendar.
Of course, now I have each page set up with guidelies (lining up with the
rulers) I can just use that and put new pictures on, instead.
This is a page from my first attempts.
http://www.kingcon.com/starchild/2009_nov.pdf
Today I decided it looks/prints better (on cardstock, which isn't glossy)
making the pictures smaller. So, I have the guidelines (going by the rulers)
set for that. There also has to be room at the top for a hole and spiral
binding.
Once the guidelines were set up on each page, I can fit the picture to
them. I just didn't think I'd have to set them on each page separately. Like
there'd be a FORMAT entire document (guidelines) or something.
Eventually I usually figuring things out.

From what I can discern the guides need to be on the master pages.

So how do I set up the master page and apply it to all 12 pages of the
calendar?
The guidelines.
I've already gone over all the pages and done each one separate, using
the rulers, but if there's a way of doing it to one and applying it to all,
it would be good to know.
It could be something so simple everyone is missing it (including
me)

I saw the table and thought about that. I think one problem (if there is
one) the calendar (bottom of the page) is all set. I am only looking to set
up the top half of the paper where the picture goes.
I did see and try clicking "apply to page range" but now I don't
remember what that was from.
I do think you are right, I'm making something simple way too hard.
I just thought what I set up (guidelines) on page 1 of a 12 page project
would auto apply to them all.
I find I am getting it to come out better (more even) the more I do.
The hardest part of making calendars seems to be deciing WHICH picture
to use (out of so many) and getting the holes in the top punched to line up
evenly.
I'm doing better with the spiral binding..
Anyone who sees my "test" calendars asks if they can have one, so
getting rid of the ones I don't think are perfect and "practice" ones
doesn't seem to be a problem (LOL)
