Setting up Skills

I used Enterprise Outline code 24 to define skills, I setup the field to be
shared/linked to another Enterpise outline code that we use for Title/Role
which duplicates the way we identify skills. In using the MAtch and/or
Resource Substitute wizard the results are very inconsistent could it be
related to the share?

Is there any thing else I can look at to trouble shoot why the neither the
match/substitute do not find either all matches or an appropriate subsititute?

Hi Jan,

the configuraiton settings you have done seem to be ok. In the past we have
experienced issues with the resource Substitute wizard. If you could specify
your issue in more detail, I may be able to help you find where the issue
lays.
Thanks

Hi Marc,

Thanks Marc - The issue that I'm having is;
The wizard doesn't find a recommendation to replace generic resources for
all tasks. Even though I know there are resources with match skills (and
they are available), it just seems to ignore some of the generic resources.

Also, in some instances where an actual resources has multiple skills,
matching multiple generic resources it substitutes them in each instance, is
there any way to avoid this?

As for the Matching, same issue there are actual resources with matching
skills but nothing gets listed when I select the generic resource and click
match.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi Jan,

That is odd. The first thing I would check that the skill set outline code
has "match with resources" switched on. Once this is the case, I have never
had any iissues with this. Have you check if you have any Server event log
errors concerning Project Server?

Unless you specifiy to exclude generic resources, project server always
includes the generic resources in its match search.

Can you please check the above mentioned and we will see what next we can
do. Sorry that I cant help right now, but we need to trace down the cause of
the issue first :)

I checked as you instructed, nothing in the event log, outline code is set to
be used to match with resources. Could it be related to the fact that the
outline code values are at one level with no sub-levels within the skills?
Just trying to figure it out.

I dont think so Jan, the best way to check is to add a couple of levels and
see if this works, but I dont think that this is the issue. Have you also
ensured to map the skill level to your resources?

Hi Marc,

If by mapping to resources you mean assigning skills to the resources, yes I
have. Any other suggestions?

Hi Jan,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I was on a well deserved holiday :)
At this stage I cannot see any reason why it shouldnt work.
By setting it up as discussed in the previous posts it has always worked for
me and I have not been able to reproduce the issue.
Maybe someone else has had this issue before. Sorry that I cant help any
further
