setting values

i'm a teacher using an antiquated word form to do annual reports (dont ask why we are not using a databases) anyway the problem i have is inserting ticks into cells and lining them all correctly also having to cut and paste or insert from symbols, is there any way of setting a value in a word (XP) table a value that will make it a tick? thanks for any assistance in advance

You could use a check box form field; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm and especially
the forms tutorials by Dian Chapman that this article links to. If a
protected form is not practical, you could use the type of MacroButton field
used in the fax cover sheet templates to create a checked or unchecked box.

G'Day Jed,

Please try the following, and select YOUR preference:

For Most Fonts: Type in 221A, select this, press ALT+X.
This will give you a ? (actually a square root) that looks
like a tick.

OR use the NUMERIC keypad, and ...

For 'Wingdings': Hold down ALT, type 0252, release ALT
also try 0111 and 0254

or Wingdings 2': Hold down ALT, type 0080, release ALT
also try and 0163 and 0082

OR

Insert>Symbol... select Font/Symbol.

In all cases, select font SIZE to 'taste'.
