Hi,

Sometimes if i hit the tab key i just get a few spaces entered in,
other times it moves the indent tab and\or goes to the next level of
numbers. How do i control which it does?

thanks for the help,

dan

better one e-mail me or respond with it

Hi Dan,

There is an option called "Set tab and first-line indent with tabs and
backspace" or "Tabs and backspace set left indent" which is located
either under Tools/AutoCorrect Options/AutoFormat as you Type or
Tools/Options/Edit depending on the version of Word you are using.

If this option is enabled then the Tab key will set a left indent
rather than inserting a Tab character depending on whether your are
typing a paragraph or editing a paragraph you have already typed. or
if you are typing a numbered list.

If you press Tab at the beginning of a paragraph you are typing then a
Tab character is inserted. If you press Tab at the beginning of a
paragraph you have already typed then it will increase the indent.

When working in a numbered list the Tab key will demote the paragraph
to the next outline level if using an Outlined numbered list. However
depending on the version of Word you are using, if you are not using
an Outline numbered list then Tab will indent the paragraph rather
than demoting it to the next outline level.

If this doesn't answer your question then perhaps you can provide the
version of Word you are using and describe the exact problem you are
encountering and we'll assist you from there. :)

Yees that answeres my question. I just have one more: To take this a
step further i use the LISTNUM felid alot and i found that if i select
olny the LISTNUM object and click on the right\left indent button on
the formating toolbar it will ajust the felid code for me automaticly
so that it is a level further in or out, depending if i hit right or
left( adds\subtracts one from the number next to \l)

thanks for the help,

dan

Hi Dan,

I'm not sure if you had another question or if you were making an
observation/statement. If there was a question I think I missed it.

That's 'cause I know the answers to questions before they are asked.

Seriously though, I'd say it's because you are Google. I just checked
and it doesn't look like your last one was archived. I don't know why
but it isn't there.

Google is okay for searching past postings but it can be fairly slow
when it comes to viewing responses. Usually it takes a couple hours or
more for them to show up.

I use either OE
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.word.application.errors
or the web interface available on the Microsoft site:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx

Your previous post show up in both locations.
