Settings for published fields

Hi,

I've defined a couple of custom fields, like 'Activity Description' for
resources to detail what they're working on in their time sheets. While using
this field in my project, i'd selected customize - published fields and
selected the custom fields. in the 'settings for activity description' i see
the radio button as disabled and set to 'Task' due to which for one task
which is assigned to 2 resources, whatever description one resource writes
and gets its updated by PM, appears on the other resource's time sheet.
What i think is that the setting should be 'Assignment' for the solution,
the again the feature is greyed out so can't try. This feature doesn't appear
as enabled for any of the custom outline codes.
I would appreciate if some one could guide me as to what am i missing.

Haris

Gaurav,

Thank you for the response. I've tried doing this with Enterprise Text field
for tasks from Enterprise fields - Custom fields and encountered this issue.
Looking forward.

I did tried the same and getting same issue. I did more reseach and found
that Enterprise Task Text field does not allow roll-up and I think that is
one of the reason assignment information is greyed out.

Try this Open enterprise global > Tools > Customize > Enterprise fields >
Select option as Task > YOU WILL SEE ROLL-UP Is greyed out

I am pretty sure this could be reason for Assignment being greyed.....

Let me know if this answers your question.

Gaurav,

Thank you for your response. Yes, this is the problem that I'm encountering.
But the MS Project Help for Task Text Field says that it can either be an
assignment or a task based field. There must be some way to use it as an
assignment field.

I think it might be one of the feature that Microsoft wanted to implement and
didn't implemented for some reason let's hope it is there for next version.
