Mac OS: 10.5.5 on an iMac
Entourage 2004 and 2008
POP Account

Background: I installed Office 2008 in a test user account and updated it
through the most recent update. It seems to work fine in that user account.
I completed the Set Up Assistant successfully. I am still using Entourage
2004 in my regular user. Several problems have surfaced.

(1) In 2004, unless Word or Excel is already running, clicking on an
attachment will not bring up either of them; instead the Set Up Assistant
comes up. I went through it again (in my regular user) and completed it
successfully‹or so it seemed. But the last two panes still appear instead of
opening the attachment, and it doesn¹t matter how many times I get to click
Finish, the same thing keeps happening. If the other application is already
running, then the attachment will successfully open.

(2) In trying to deal with this and a connection error I keep receiving
(more below), I opened Entourage 2008 in my regular user. I tried it from
the application icon in the MO 2008 application folder as well as from the
database icon in the MUD folder. But 2004 comes up instead. Of course, I had
transferred by 2004 identity when I set it up in the test user. So
apparently I cannot use Entourage 2008 in my regular user.

(3) I don¹t know whether this is related or not, but I keep getting a
connection error message box come up in 2004, There are varying error code
#s at the bottom of the error message box, but it always says that my
connection has been dropped. At first it was only doing it when I tried to
send a message; now I don¹t have to do anything for it to come up. I called
my ISP (att) twice. They don¹t support Entourage, but the first one changed
³swbell² to ³att,² and I thought that helped, but ultimately it did not. The
second one verified that my settings were OK. But she would tell me to check
or uncheck boxes in advanced settings that would stop me from getting or
sending mail altogether. Right now I have SSL checked under POP advanced
settings, and all 3 boxes checked under SMTP advanced settings. The ports
used are 995 for POP and 465 for SMTP. I am able to send and receive
messages.
