SetUp Install almost finishes.... freezes on writing registry

My 2003 Office installation almost completes but freezes near the end of
"writing system registries". after 20min an information window that the
install program is no longer responding.

Installer Log File entry at bottom:

Research in the Knowledgbase revealed I had environment "path" variable
problems, which I corrected and after 4 or 5 reboots and re-attempts the
installation succeeded by itself, without further interference from me.
