Setup MS Outlook 2001 on Powerbook

Alex

I need some help setting up Microsoft Outlook 2001 on a
new Powerbook G4 15" 1 ghz I just got yesterday running OS
X (10.2.8). When I try to configure my profile, I get the
following response:

"No network connection is available or your network
settings are not correct."

Here is what I have done so far:

Created a hostfile and saved it as HOSTS in the System
Folder\Preferences folder.

Host file contents:

HALMAIL CNAME halmail.hawaiianair.com.
halmail.hawaiianair.com. A 151.151.1.106

I VPN into our Network to establish connection to our
Exchange 5.5 server.

I am able to Ping halmail.hawaiianair.com and halmail and
it resolves to the correct hostname.

What am I missing?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi Alex!

If you can boot your Powerbook into Mac OS 9, you can then open the TCP/IP
Control Panel, switch to Advanced mode and then click the button to Select
the Hosts file.

The placement of the Hosts file in the System Folder alone is not enough to
make it work.

If you have not done this but you are able to ping your server by name, then
you have DNS working on your network to resolve the name to an IP address
and you don't need a Hosts file. Make note of your Mac OS X Network settings
for TCP/IP and then boot into Mac OS 9. Open the TCP/IP Control Panel and
see if your settings are the same. You'll want to remove any extraneous
information from the DNS and Domain Suffix fields.

Also make sure your TCP/IP Control Panel is set to use the correct network
adapter.

Hope this helps! bill
