Setup Team Resources in PWA 2007

I cannot configure "team resources" in Project Server 2007. My objective is
to 1) create a team resource, 2) assign team members, and 3) assign task to
the team resouce (generically) so that all team members are assigned the task
in PWA and whoever works on it can update status.

In addition to Marc's sage advice, please understand that when you publish a
task to which you assigned a Team resource, members of the Team DO NOT see
the task on their My Tasks page. The only way to see the task and take
responsibility for it is to click the Self-Assign Team Tasks button on the
My Tasks page. The system displays the Team Tasks page where the Team
member can see the task and assign it to him/herself. This is not the
behavior any of us expected when Microsoft announced it long ago, but it
does work. Hope this helps.

I hopped that we could use a Team resource to assign all team members to a
task. That is true until one of the team members Self-Assigns the task.
After that only that member can enter time into the time sheet against the
task. For all other team members the task is no longer available for
Self-Assignment.

We want to assign a team and with it all its members to a task so that the
team members can add the task to the time-sheet at any point independent if
some other team members have been already working on the task.

Is this scenario possible at all? It is similar to Mike's question.

Thank you for any help.

No, I believe that scenario is simply not possible. Unfortunately, we are
all learning that Team resources do not work the way peeople thought they
would. Sorry.

Dale,

Thank you for the reply. Hopefully people at Microsoft are reading these
posts.

Some of them occasionally read this newsgroup, but there is no regular
participation by Microsoft staff. Hope this helps.

Davor,

I want to share with you a workaround I implemented when I wanted to assign
a task to a team so that they can pull it when they want to from the common
assignment pool.

I created four generic resources (The team size is four) and assigned as
many resources required for the task. If a task requires two resources, I
assigned two generic resources and similarly... Resources pulled those tasks
when they worked on those specific tasks.

Advantages I perceived:
All the team tasks are visible to all the resources in a team. Anyone can
pull any task. I need not know who's going to work on which task. I just need
to know how many resources would be working on a particular task.

Disadvantage:
As a Generic resource doesn't have assignment owner field, I get all the
unassigned team tasks in myTasks view. But as they get assigneed to
individual team members, they get disappeared..

As I understand, the 'Team Resource' in Project 2007 doesn't represent a
"Team" but represents a "Resource" in a team.

Hope this helps!!
