Setup Usenet in Entourage. . .

Z

zozo

I have a laptop and a desktop, the same version of Entourage and fresh
from the install they both look totally different.

The main problem is usenet groups. It was disgustingly easy before.
There was an icon that said usenet and you clicked on it and checked
rec.travel.whatever and subscribed.

On the latop, it only shows microsoft groups, and my feeble attempts to
reinvent what used to be there automatically have resulted in four
hours of frustration. Online help is useless as usual.

Any ideas, and why does this program display so differently on two
different computers with the same OS?

the desktop shows emails as name date received, size, etc. the laptop
is this frustrating name and date with a split screen showing you a
preview of the email. Switching between displaying by date and
displaying by author is such a nightmare i haven't done it again.

Any help or references much appreciated.

Entourage ships with the Microsoft News server already configured. Any other
news server will have to be provided by a third party, and MS has no way of
knowing which third party news servers will be available to customers, so it
doesn't include any.

Most times, the news server you use will be hosted by your ISP. So, a
Btinternet.com user would use the news server at news.btinternet.com etc.

To create the news account, select 'accounts' from the Tools menu, select
the 'news' tab in the accounts window, then click the 'new' button at the
top of the window. Here you get the chance to fill in the server
information.

When you have the news account set up, the news server icon will appear in
the left hand column of your main window. Select this, and it will start to
download the newsgroups. When the list is populated (this can take a few
minutes for news servers with thousands of groups available) select the ones
you want to visit regularly and hit the 'subscribe' button. These will then
appear in the left hand column under the news server icon. Select the group
and the message headers will start to download.
Online help is useless as usual.

Yes, I'll agree with you there!

If they are the same version of office they should have been set up the same
way originally.

It sounds like the preview pane setting have been changed ono ne machine -
under the 'View' menu you can set the preview pane to be on the right, below
the message or turn it off.
