sfc for office

Windows Update now asks for the CD - it did NOT do before! I suspect an
Office update-controlling file has been corrupted. Is there an office
equivalent of XP's sfc (system file checker) which will leave my settings
alone (unlike "Detect and Repair), and will check and restore all of my
office programs in one go? Alternatively, does anyone know what the missing
file is, and how I can install it from the CD?

No, and my crystal ball is on vacation for question number 2.

I must apologise for my initial gut reaction in voting Milly Staples' reply
as being unhelpful. Of course it helps to know for sure that there is no
such program, and not to keep pondering about it. I was just feeling
depressed about the situation. I'm sorry.

This is what the crystal ball reference was about - you never mentioned the
name of the file that could not be found.

Oh, I see! I meant that I want to know the name of the file on the Office
2003 CD (i.e. the file that allows you to perform the updates without having
to use the CD itself), because that file must have been on my hard disk
before, and must have been corrupted. I want to copy it back to my hard
disk, but I don't know what it's called (or exactly which directory to put it
in).
