Shaded non-working time on Gantt doesn't match actual non working time

Hi there, I have added in a new calendar to shade a certain time frame
on the gantt chart and the shaded area doesn't match the dates. Any
ideas? Thanks.

Hi Tim,

You need to make sure to set the nonworking time display to your new
calendar. Right click in the background of the Gantt chart and
choose Nonworking Time. Select your custom calendar there.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie, thanks for the reply. I did set the non working time to the
new calendar and also selected the non working time to appear as shaded
but the timeframe is off. This project spans over 3 years and I want to
show a certain phase as shaded. I set the new calendar to the exact
dates that I want to show shaded. The phase begins July 15 but the
shading (non working time) on the Gantt begins in August. My timescale
is monthly at the lowest level, so I was assuming that the shading would
begin at the middle of July but it starts August. Thanks again.

Hi Tim,

In quick experimentation setting non-working time of a month (July
15 to August 15) and then changing the zoom to show months at the
lower tier -- I can't see the nonworking time shading at all. When
I increase the span of the nonworking time from July 15 to end of
August I can now see the nonworking time, but it appears to start in
August and end in August, When I further increase the nonworking
time from July 15 to Sept 15, again, I only see August.

The level of detail seems to only work in full month increments.
You may have to change your zoom magnification or take an alternate
approach of drawing a color filled rectangle in the background of
the gantt chart. Again, it's going to be tough to hit the 1/2 month
span.

Another alternative may be to set the gantt bars that fall during
that time frame to a different color. You should be able to set a
flag field to "Yes" for tasks in the specific date range and then
create a new bar style based upon the flag = yes.

Thanks for the help Julie, I will use flags for the dates.

Do you know if this is a feature (shading for phases) that might be
added to Microsoft Project in the future? For long term projects, this
would be a great addition for scheduling. Thanks again.

Hi Tim,

I'm afraid I can't offer any insights as to what may or may not be
included in future releases -- I just don't know. I imagine there
may be more information about what is in the next release of Project
presented at the Project conference in Phoenix in September. So
perhaps your wishes may come true :)
