Shading (Fill) in a created box

I am trying to create a drawing that shows a square, and then show it cut in
half sort of slanted across the middle from side to side to form two
trapezoid-shaped objects. And I want them all shaded the same.
Is there a way to divide and separate the square into 2 pieces and keep the
shading?

Using Word 2003, I have created a trapezoid-shaped box that looks like what
I ultimately want, but because I just connected lines to create the object
and grouped them to form one object, I can't use Fill to create color.
Is there any way to do this?

You can use the Freeform line to draw a trapezoid. Click to start a line,
click to end it, change direction to create the second side, click to end
it, then continue, drawing two more lines and ending the last one where you
started, and double-click to complete the shape, which you will be able to
fill. You very likely won't get it perfect the first time, but that doesn't
matter because you then right-click on the shape and choose Edit Points,
which will allow you to drag the corners until the shape is just the way you
want it.

I'm glad this worked for you. Every time I have to do something like this in
Word, it seems I rediscover the process and am impressed with Word (and
myself) all over again!
