Shadow in text boxes?

I'm learning OneNote with a Tablet PC for the first time after having used
Windows Journal and I find annoying the shadow that turns up in OneNote when
you write text. Is there any way to turn this off so that it looks more like
Windows Journal?

Are you referring to what OneNote calls "note containers"?

On PC:

Tools > Options > Display

Toggle the checkbox to switch container visibility on or off.
If you leave them switched on, use the nearby dropdown menu to adjust the
darkness of the shading.
