Shadowing, Shading, Embossing, and Scaling

Is it impossible to shadow, shade, emboss and scale text while you are
working on a web template when using publisher 2007? This seems like the
case but I want to be sure that I'm not doing something wrong. Am I going to
have to make jpegs out of text and then insert it as pictures while editing
my webpages? I hope a kind soul out there can advise.

Thanks

You are correct. If you select text in a web template or web publication, go
to Format > Font, you will see that the options to Outline, Emboss, shadow,
and engrave are grayed out...you don't have the option. These are print
publication options, and have no HTML equivalents.

You can create your shadowed text in a print publication, copy and paste
special as an image (jpg, gif, png, etc) and use that in your web
publication, but I am not sure you will like the quality of the results. Gif
and png are the smaller file sizes.

I forgot about the fact that you can now save any design element as a
picture at resolutions of up to 300 dpi in Pub 2007. If you create a
shadowed text box, you can right click it and save as a picture. When the
save dialog comes up, note at the bottom the Change button. Click it and you
can set the resolution to 150 or 300 dpi for print, or 96 dpi for the web.
You could play around with different settings and file formats to create
better images than if you just copy and pasted as an image.

In reality, if you want the best quality I would suggest you look to image
editing or draw programs. There are lots of freebies if you don't have
something yourself.

You can save the image as a .tif using Pub 2007, if you want. However, you
do not use .tif files in web pages. Use .gif and perhaps .png for images and
graphics with relatively few colors, and .jpgs for more complex images
requiring many colors.
