Shape Numbering bug?

P

PPL

I'm using the Visio 2003 - Number Shapes add-on
If I subsequently change the values of a numbered shape's custom properties,
the ShapeNumber field is removed.

Has anyone else experinced this problem - or found a work-around please?

Thanks

HI JuneTheSecond
Thanks for responding - I appreciate your interest.
I'm exporting (using the Visio Report function) a process map into Excel.
Each Shape has some (6) custom properties.
The map contains a mixture of shapes, some of which are sequently numbered.
It's important that all the shapes are reported in Excel in asscending
numeric sequence. This includes the shapes that are not numbered
I numberred all "numbered shapes" using the Number Shape add-on
I then numbered all "non-numbered shapes" the same way
Maybe I was being a bit of a smart arse but I figued that if I assigned
decimal numbers to the the non number shapes then I could position them in
the required sequence

I.e. Shape 1.5 is a non-numberd shape but it appears between Shapes 1 and 2
which are numbered
That works fine, and it appears in the correct position in Excel
Problem I have is that sometimes, (not always), if I change one of the
Custom Properties in one of these decimally numbered shapes then the
ShapeNumber field and its contents are deleted!

As I said - on thinking about it. Maybe it's becasue I'm using decimal
numbers - but I can't understand why it should be a problem?

Hopefully all of that makes sense?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

Philip

Your shape might be complicated group.
When you add number with the addon, the text filed and the custom property
is added in one of the children. not in the parent shape.
So you feel you cannot see the text filed.

Interesting. So is there a way to prevent that or at least to fix the shape
that is numbered?
Thanks
