Shape Search error: Cannot connect to the Internet

I have been using Visio for about a year. I have always been able to search
for shapes. All of a sudden, whenever I search I get an error telling me
'Cannot connect to the Internet'. However, my Internet connection is working
fine. I have verified that the search settings are set correctly in
Options. I get this error consistently. Has anyone had this happen?

Any firewall software on the PC other than Windows Firewall?
Any software or updates installed on the machine recently around the time
this started happening?
Latest service pack of Visio? Version? OS?
Does it work in Windows Safe Mode with Networking?
Delete cookies?

Also, NetMon's a good tool we use for troubleshooting tough shape search
issues, you can find at MS Download center (download.microsoft.com)

Thanks for the reply.

There have been no changes to my firewall coonfiguration since before the
problem developed. And I have the same problem when connected from my work
network and from my home internet connection.

I am using Visio 2003 with SP3 on WinXP.

I did in fact update to IE 7.0 at the very time that the problem started.
No other software installs. Do you know if there is an IE setting that could
be causing this?

I will try NetMon.

Add http://*.microsoft.com to Trusted Sites list.

Thank you for the reply. I have added http://*.microsoft.com to my
Trusted Sites and restarted my computer, but the problem still exists. I've
also downloaded netmon, but I don't know how to use it to troubleshoot this
problem.

Try adding https://*.microsoft.com to trusted sites.

You can use Netmon to see the domain name or IP address being queried when
accessing shape search.

I installed netmon and I can capture traffic, but I do not know how to read
it. It is too technical for me.

I also just now upgraded to Visio 2007 to try to fix the problem, but it
gives me the same error during a shape search; cannot connect to the Internet.

however, Visio has no problem with searching Microsoft when I use it's Help
Search.

The other problem I am having since I upgraded to IE7.0 is I cannot go to
any page other than page 1 on this message board. If I try to advance to
page 2, IE freezes (nothing can be clicked on). I've tried many times and it
always does this. I am able to search for posts though. I just can't use
the next page function at the bottom of the post list.
