I just wanted to mention that Visio 2003 works differently than previous
versions here. First, the File > Stencils menu was changed to File > Shapes
to match the Shapes Window title. Second, the Shapes Window was made
showable / hideable by adding a new item to the View menu. Therefore, in
Visio 2003 closing the Shapes Window does not close the stencils that were
open; it merely hides them.

It probably wouldn't have stumped you if they'd called 'em stencils instead of shapes --
or if they'd used "shapes" on the menu instead of "stencils". ;-)
Select File > Stencils from the menu. Then either select Open Stencil to browse the
stencils in a standard Open dialog or hover your mouse over one of the folders on the
stencil list and select from the contents.
And now that you know, you can open as many stencils as you want from as many different
categories as necessary! I just wish there was an "open all" selection.
HTH!

This question seems simple, but finding an answer is what has proved
complicated. I have closed the Shapes Window on the left hand side within
a Visio document and now want it to reappear (for access to backgrounds,
borders and titles, and shapes). Have searched through help, but no luck..
Any suggestions ??
