Share Document Library across multiple projects

In Project Server 2007 - is it possible to have the document library for one
project shared across many projects. We have several projects that all
reference the same documentation and want to only upload the documents once
for all the related projects to access the documents.

Don't know why you couldn't use a "Links" webpart to contain the URL to a
central library. You could also put it on the PWA home page using a webpart.
I know of a site that did this in PS 2003.

FWIW ...

Thanks but we actually want to use the functionality to Link Documents to a
task and reach a shared document library that way - I am not sure if there is
a way to do this in 2007

Thanks - we were just thinking about the documents but you raise a valid
point with issues, risks, etc.

RQ:

You can accomplish nearly the same affect by using the href field at the
task level rather than using the project linking system. In this case, you
need to make sure that everyone has at least read access to the project
workspace that contains the documents. If everyone can update these then
they need read/write access. To accomplish the former, make sure that all
readers are members of the team in the project owning the workspace. For the
latter, you'll need to assign at least one dummy task in the project. You
can also consider using the Master Project construct for this whereby you
create all of your related project workspaces beneath a master plan site.
Jackson's suggestion is another approach linking through the Project
Workspaces, but this will not be actionable in PWA views.

Gary,

Thanks - We started by trying to get the Hyperlink Reference or any of the
Hyperlink fields into the My Tasks - My Assignments view so the user could
just click on the link to find documents related to a task that we store on
our internal site or on an external website or send an email to a contact
related to a task. Since this is not supported in 2007 - we moved to using
the document links. We need to link documents to tasks and to not cause the
user to navigate to the task other then in the My Tasks view so we cannot use
the Hyperlink fields under Project Center-Project Details to access the
links.

I am not sure what the Master Project construct is and if we might be able
to leverage it within the My tasks view.
