Share Point Failed to start the database service MSSQL$OfficeServers

Hello Friends...

I was in the process of redeploying MSEPM 2007 and in order to upgrade
SQL2000 to 2005 & further intigrate with MS Portfolio Server 2007, I
had to uninstall SQL 2000 & install the 2005 version.

Now, the SQL Server Instance name got changed from "OfficeServer" to
"MSSQLSERVER" as I had selected defult option.
While accessing the Share Point Product & Tech Configuration, I am
getting the following error:

"Failed to start the database service MSSQL$OfficeServers. Repair this
product by selecting from the Add/Remove program menu"

I have tried to repaired both Project Server 2007 as well as Share
Point Server 2007 (Also reinstalled the both as the problem
persisted!). And deleted the old shared services sites from IIS.

But still I am getting the same error. Can anyone help please.

Thank you
Ajit

Ajit,

I would actually remove the SharePoint\Project Server installation
altogether, and reinstall it...If you cannot fix your configuration
using the wizard you are rather stuffed in my opinion, and its
normally better to reinstall it completely to avoid other issues...

Hi Nico,

Thanks for your response. I have already reinstalled everything
(Project Server, Share point server, SQL) twice. But the same problem
persists. Share Point wizard is still serching for the old Project
Server Database (which my administrator could have taken a back up
before creating this mesh!). I think the database name is stored
somewhere (I really wonder!) in our server registry?

I would be obliged to get some more solution.

Plz help.

Thanks & Regards
Ajit

Hi Ajit,
Rather than re-install, do as Nico set and uninstall everything, then
install. This includes MOSS/WSS and SQL.

When you say you selected the default option, exactly which product did you
do this for?

Hi Ben,

Actually I had tried to repair Project Server 2007 (by going to add/
remove programs) but the error again came. Then I uninstalled it and
installed once again.

Default Option: I didnt give any named instance for SQL.

Now Ben, SQL 2005 is even not getting unisnstalled. I am trying to
stop the services mannually to uninstall it.

Its really has given me a severe headache!!

If you took the default option for PS2007, then it will have installed with
SQLExpress, maybe this is where you went wrong in the 1st place. Definitely
you will need to uninstall SQL2005 and SQLExpress before moving forward.
Before uninstalling these, SharePoint, MOSS, PS and anything else that has a
reliance on SQL will need to be uninstalled.
