Shared Borders command is grayed-out

I've been away --in a remote area, in the South Pacific, far from computers
and the internet-- for four plus years. I'm back now and I want to work
on/update a web that I originally created in Front Page 2000. It uses
"Shared Borders".

I have been able to open that web successfully; the shared borders are there
and most everything seems OK. The "Shared Borders" command in the Format>
Dropdown Menu is (black and) functional.

But when I start a new web (using FP 2000); and open a new page-the "Shared
Borders" command in the Format> Dropdown Menu is grayed-out.

Question:
How do I enable this "Shared Borders" command in FP 2000 when creating a new
web?

I've tried searching through this forum, the one answer I found * didn't
work. *( In FP 2003; I went to Tools>Page Options> and checked the square
that says "Shared Borders"). It remains grayed-out. And I've tried both FP
2000 and FP 2003. The "Shared Borders" command continues to be grayed-out
in both.



Please! Let me know how to enable this in both FP 2000 and FP 2003.

Is there a new function that will accomplish the most of the same results?

I need to start on a couple of new web soon.



I know this is real basic stuff, but with all the MVP's out there - there
must be someone that can give me an answer. I'll even settle for being
yelled at; if I can learn what do.

OK-- So I discovered that I need to create a new WEB not just a web page,
Once I made a new web the "Shared Borders" WERE available.
Now can someone tell me if there is a new better way, to do the same things
that "Shared Borders" could do?
At least I didn't hold my breath.

In FrontPage 2003, look at Dynamic Web Templates
In all versions of FrontPage, look at Include Pages

If you have 2003 I strongly advise you NOT to use shared borders.

If you have 2003 I strongly advise you NOT to use shared borders.

DWT, CSS, and/or Include pages are all better solutions for better future
maintenance.
