Shared Contact Folder To Address Book

Hello,

We've got a generic Exhange user where we keep all of our corporate contacts which we share to all of the other users. The shared contacts folder works great and all the employees can see the shared contacts just fine, but is there any way to be able to see the shared contacts folder as an address book when composing an email? We're stumped!

Thanks,

Jeff Balcerzak

If you right-click that folder and choose Properties, is there an Outlook
Address Book tab? If so, can you check "Show this folder as an e-mail
Address Book"?

That option does not appear with shared contacts, only personal contacts.
When you right click on a shared contact folder you do not get the option to
add it to the address book.... but that is exactly what many people are
looking for. My compay just upgraded from Groupwise. Our users expect to be
able to open an e-mail, and be able to select a list shared by another
person. The only option at this time is to open the share list, double click
on the contact or distrubtion list and select send message. But no option if
they want to send to two of those groups because they cannot open the address
book and select another shared contact. I know I rambled a little bit but it
seems like no one has a fix, yet hundreds are looking for an answer. I've
been all over the web and have seen the same question.

Why is this so complicated? When I read the original post, I thought it was someone from my own organization. This is exactly what we're trying to do, and no one seems able to figure it out. We recently migrated from Groupwise, which uses a MAPI compliant address book. This integrated extremely well with Microsoft Office. Now Outlook doesn't use address books, so the contacts folders don't integrate with anything in their own applications! Does that make any sense? We currently use a Word add-in called DataPrompter which allows quick creation of templates with user forms linked to an address book. The shared Groupwise address book worked perfectly. Now with Outlook, I can share my contacts folder with other users, but they can't use it as an address book so it doesn't work with DataPrompter. I contacted the DataPrompter author (an Office MVP), and he didn't have a clue. Is there anyone out there who knows the proper way to share a contacts folder so that it can be used as an address book by the shared users?
