shared database/developer extensions/access 2003

I need some basic help, and I dont seem to be able to find any reference to
it. I have a shared excel spreadhseet with a list of our office contacts
(used by 6 people in the office). I would like to replace it by an access
database application that will allow us to do quick searches and show us
information the way we want it.

Can I program an access 2003 application that will allow me to store the
actual database data in the main server drive and then by the use of the
developer extensions distribute the application only (not the data) to all
the machines that will allow them to look and work with the same data storage
in the server drive? or do I have to go one step further and buy a SQL server
package to do this?

I ask the question because access normally stores all together in the same
file (ie, tables, queries, reports, etc), so I not sure how to proceed.

Any has some advice?
