shared folders open as read only

just added an xp pro sp1 station to my win 2000 server
based network.
my office files, even shared access ones, open as read
only. (no warning message)
does anyone know what is causing this (smd?)and how to
rectify it.

The most likely problem is that when you shared the
folder you did so without giving others on the network
permission to modify your files...ie, read only access.

In Properties of the files just remove the read only
check box

thanks for your replies, unfortunatly this is not the
problem.
the share permissions are set correctly and the files can
be opened and modified on any pc on the network other
than this one.
i feel it must be something to do with the security
settings on this version of xp but i am at a loss as to
exactly what.
