Shared resources and SharePoint

E

ewnash

I have a project portfolio stored on a SharePoint team site, and would like
to share resources from a resource pool. I'm using Project 2003 without
Project Server. The issue is this; if I attempt to share resources in any
project stored on SharePoint, Project gives me an error message stating that
"Project does not support resource pooling on a web server".

If I save the MPP files to a local or network drive then pooling works fine
but our enterprise requires the use of SharePoint. Does anyone know of a
workaround?

Hi ewnash,

It sounds like you want to store the mpp file up on SharePoint and not lose
the ability to use resource pooling. Since you mentioned resource pooling
works correctly on a network drive, I suggest using the the 'network drive'
facility in SharePoint. That is, because SharePoint uses WebDAV, you can
point Windows Explorer (for example) to a network drive on your SharePoint
server. It's usually as simple as swapping http for file.

For example, say your sharepoint site is

http://www.sharepoint.com/sitename/Shared Documents/MyFolder/MPPfile.mpp

If you know the name of the web server, let's call it 'Bill', then you can
save your mpp files to location:

file:///Bill/sitename/Shared Documents/MyFolder/MPPfile.mpp

and it sounds like things will work.

Or, you can check out our Add In at

http://www.teamdirection.com/mspaddin/index.html

We already have many customers using Active Directory to fill out their
Resource Sheets for task assignments. If you fill out your Resource Sheet
with users from a resource pool, IntelliGantt will match them up and invite
them to a SharePoint workspace automatically. The match is done with the
users display name and/or email address.

But then this uses a SharePoint task list to store project information,
which can also have its good points.

Cheers!
