shared service admin homepage links

Hi,

I'm trying to setup FBA using custom role and it's giving me "Access Denied"
so after a good deal of search I came across the following options of giving
more permissions:

1.Browse to your SSP Administration site.
2.You will be prompted with the standard out of the box FBA login form. Log
in.
3.Click on the My Site settings link in the User Profiles and My Sites
section on the SSP Home page.

Problem is - the third step mentions of User Profiles and My Sites section.
But i'm unable to find any such section in the ssp admin page ? Am i missing
something here ?

Would be glad if someone could suggest a few pointers... thanks.

Hey Stephen,

Thanks for the quick response. It seems that I need to install MOSS 2007 to
get to these links. And since I have tried all possible means of getting the
custom authentication work with the custom role provider without luck, I
might as well give a try with the moss.

I already have Project Server 2007 installed with WSS 3.0. Can I install
MOSS 2007 now without running into problems ?

Thanks,
Amitava.

This will guide you through deploying MOSS to your existing PS07 farm:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197594.aspx

However, you shouldn't need MOSS to implement a custom role provider.
Take a look at
http://tonytestasworld.us/post/2008...harePoint-for-Forms-Based-Authentication.aspx.
You should also increase the verbosity of the SharePoint diagnostic
logging and take a look in those logs to see if there's any helpful
errors logged.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for sharing the links.

It seems that I dont have a problem authenticating the user (based on custom
role) when I create a normal sharepoint site. The problem arises when I
create a PWA site and try authenticating using role, in the same way. After
giving access to users exclusively from within the PWA site (by logging in
as admin user and adding the user in the Manage Users screen) makes
everything work fine and the user can login successfully. But when I do the
same thing using roles, it doesnt work (but i can see that sharepoint can
read the custom roles properly as it is showing up in one people picker)

I am assuming there are some other permissions which the PWA might be
looking for ? I've tested my code against an asp.net website as well and
there isnt any problem there.

So the problem basically is using role based authentication in PWA !

Thanks,
Amitava.
