Shared workbook - loss of connection at save

T

Terryk-RAF

Hello,
I have a recurring problem with shared workbooks - usually when there are
multiple users accessing the same file.
When another user saves the file, the file name automatically changes to
another name made up of 'random' letters and digits without the any extension
instead of the xls extension. File type = 'file'. For example: E588E500
When other users save the file they receive and error msg that they are no
longer connected to the file.

Note:
- All workbooks were created and "shared" by myself
- The error seems to occur only when the file is saved by a user other than
myself

Does anyone have any experience of an error like this and is there any way
to prevent it?

Certainly. A foolproof way to prevent this error (and many other errors related
to shared workbooks!!) is to unshare the workbook.

I strongly advise against sharing workbooks. Unshare them and instruct your
users to edit one at the time.

Or use a database application.

Opinions on shared workbooks vary
I take this approach.

If a car was sold with faulty A/C which only worked for 10 minutes would you
buy it?
So why did microsoft sell and bundle shared workbook features within Excel
2007.
It should have been removed or improved. Not a sit on the fence course of
action.
We do not acknowldge using SQL and Access but is this needed for a 2-3 user
shared workbook? This is my opinion.

Kind Regards
