shared workbooks

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Received a file from a client as a shared workbook. Need to work with the file, copy sheets from another file, merge cells, but the shared status is preventing that. Is there any way to remove the share status since I'm not sharing the file?

Tools> Share Workbook..., clear the check on 'Allow changes by more than one
user...", confirm Yes. Keep in mind, though, that if you intend to use the
Track Changes feature the workbook must be Shared -- You can't use Track
Changes in an 'exclusive' workbook.

Thanks for your response. It didn't work. Perhaps it's because the file was originated in a Microsoft network environment and sent to my Mac.

Not necessarily... The file may also be Protected. If it was produced by
Excel 2007 there could be additional factors. I'd have the re-send a usable
copy :)
