sharepoint and project server versions

We are shortly installing project server 2007, which I understand requires
Sharepoint 3.0?

However we are currently using sharepoint 2.0 - as many different apps are
currently integrated into ss2.0, the upgrade to 3.0 is some way off, but in
the meantime I don't want to slow down the set up / roll-out of Project
Server.

(a) Can Project Server run with SS2.0?

(b) If not, can I run two versions of SS, 2.0 (for everything else) and 3.0
(only for project server)?

(c) In the very first phase I will just have 2 or 3 users using the desktop
2007 Prof in conjunction with Project server but with no CAL licenses. For
this simple configuration, do I even need to have sharepoint at all?

Hi,

One question at a time:

1. No it is not possible.

2. Yes this is possible. please be very careful during the install.

3. you would need to install WSS 3.0 with Project Server 2007. This is the
core binary files which are needed and installed during the install of
Project Server.

HTH - please rate this post if it has helped.
