Sharepoint checkboxes not showing in data connection

I'm using a SharePoint document list to store values. One column (field) is a
choice type displaying multiple checkboxes. All works fine in SharePoint.
But when I make a data connection in InfoPath that field does not show.
Why is that and is there a workaround?
