Sharepoint Designer vs. FrontPage

How similar is SharePoint Designer to Front Page 2003? Since there really
isn't any books, help files or training for SPD yet, would I be wasting my
time learning FP fundamentals that I assume would apply to SPD?
And, will SharePoint Designer be available as a stand-alone product next year?

No.
Keep in mind however that some SP-D features will only work when the web is on a sharepoint
enabled server.
Also, SP-D is aimed towards collaborative efforts. One Web many Masters

If you're a one man band as a webmaster, you might want to look at Expression Web Designer,
Unless of course you need sharepoint features.

And, will SharePoint Designer be available as a stand-alone product next year?
